The company Waymo reported that its fully autonomous taxi is finally ready. According to the developer's press service, the service of autonomous taxis will be available for everyone very soon. The development of a drone in Waymo began eight years ago. Since then, robotic cars under the supervision of drivers have traveled more than five million kilometers, and more than twenty US cities took part in the testing. All this allowed not only to teach the autopilot work under different conditions, but also to test it for strength. In addition to the usual trips, the autopilot trained on a simulator, in which it traveled millions of virtual kilometers a day.
Two years ago, the company made its first completely unmanned trip, during which Steve Mahan, a completely blind passenger, was able to drive a robotic taxi from his house to see a doctor.
Until recently, all tests were conducted with the operator, who was inside the cabin and controlled all the actions of unmanned vehicles, but more recently, testing began to take place without their participation. The video, published by Waymo, clearly demonstrates that an unmanned car feels quite confident on the road, independently regulating the speed and choosing a route for traffic.
The company's blog says that ordinary residents will be able to call an unmanned taxi in the next few months.
