The DAG data block is used to find the block solutions in the block network on the Dagger Hashimoto algorithm
(his latest version at the moment is called Ethash), with which you can get different coins. The main crypto currency on this algorithm is Ethereum, but there are others: Ethereum Classic, Musicoin, Ubiq, Daxx, Whale, Pegas, Expanse, Dubaicoin, Soil and some others. Each of these "coins" has its own DAG file, the sizes of which also vary.
The size of the DAG file is increased by 8 MB every 30,000 blocks. This interval is called "the change of epochs". Each era creates a new DAG file, so knowing the size of the current and future file is very important, because its size affects the production rate.
When the miner is started, the DAG file is loaded into the GPU memory, so if the DAG size is larger than the GPU memory, this GPU becomes useless. The size of the future DAG file can be calculated independently, but for the convenience of users, various services have already been created that provide this and other information.
A calculator, for example this one, can help calculate the size of the future file, and even with its help you can roughly estimate the date when the next "change of the era" takes place. The exact date is difficult to name, since it is calculated based on the time of the block, which usually differs.
In addition, there are also ready-made tables on which various parameters of DAG are written, current epochs for different "coins" and other parameters. The actual parameters are also listed here, for example, you can find out the number of the current block, its time and the number of the current epoch.
Immediately presented is a list of current video cards, for which a number is given an approximate date, when the size of the DAG will increase to a size incompatible with a certain model.
