In Russia, develop an OS for domestic processors

To ensure security at state-owned enterprises and other firms in the Russian Federation, where a good degree of data protection is required, domestic components must be used to avoid information leaks. But for the operation of any hardware, software is needed, which will effectively manage the resources of the system and recently Russian IT specialists have broken into the creation of a domestic operating system for the Elbrus and Baikal processors.

To begin with, we recall that we are talking about the Baikal-T1 and Elbrus-8C processors. The first was developed by Baikal Electronics and belongs to a family of 32-bit systems using the P5600 processor cores of MIPS32 Release 5 architecture from Imagination Technologies. It is well suited for use in various network devices, microelectronics and so on. Elbrus is also a more powerful processor with 8 cores, designed for solving complex problems and for creating multiprocessor systems.

Software for domestic processors will be created within the framework of the program "Digital Economy", which provides for the development of a universal software for domestic components. At the moment, the project of the Russian operating system is in the design stage. However, it is known that the implementation of the project provides the ability to work both for launching standard applications, and for working with huge data sets. It also claims that the development will be done "from scratch", and not using the Linux kernel, as it was previously practiced. In addition, there is information that the distribution of software will be limited to only a segment of state-owned enterprises.
