The Australian Public Institute has launched a study that will allow students to earn Ethereum crypto currency, and then spend it on purchases in retail stores on campus.
The project is going to be realized with the participation of the LoyaltyX start-up within the Unify Rewards program. Students will be able to spend the Aether using a special application that is recognized by the scanners of stores located near the campuses of the university. The idea is that for every tenth purchase in the store, students will be charged five dollars in an ether equivalent through the application, which the owners can use at their discretion - to save and increase, or to spend on ordinary purchases too.
The initiative is attended by only 500 students who applied in advance - they will help startup LoyaltyX and the university to collect data on how actively the students are willing to use the crypto currency and how the behavior of the owners of crypto currency changes after the first accruals.
"The cost of the Ether is constantly growing, so we are interested in observing the reaction of subjects receiving crypto currency as bonuses for purchases. We are confident that the crypto currency and its capabilities will be much more attractive for students than traditional means of calculation, "says Andrew Low, LoyaltyX project manager.
The experiment will last until the end of the year, after which the leadership of the start-up and the university will consider the possibilities for further cooperation.
