US Marines will print drones directly on the ground

Aleph Objects has developed a portable 3D printer that, thanks to experts in the field of aviation and innovative materials, involved in the development of special software, can be the first device that the military will use to print ready-made drones in the field.

The LulzBot printer will allow US marines, if necessary, to independently print a ready-to-fly unmanned aerial vehicle by specifying its parameters in a special application. After the military presses the "START" button, it remains to wait 24 hours. After a day, the aircraft will be ready to carry out the tasks assigned to it.

Engineers of the US Army and the Marine Corps developed inexpensive drones jointly with specialists from the University of Georgia, and now they are going to use 3D-printing technologies to support various military formations.

Usually the production of UAV takes from several days to a week, but the accelerated cycle of UAV creation and almost completely automated process, according to the authors of the concept, will allow the military to create drones in at least trenches and, if necessary, use them for reconnaissance without worrying about the safety of the aircraft - the cost one printed drona will not exceed a couple of hundred dollars.
