Chinese search giant Baidu announced the imminent release of unmanned vehicles on the market. According to company representatives, Baidu will not produce cars on its own, but, according to Engadget, will provide ready solutions for the autopilot to its BAIC partner - a large automotive company.
Like many other developers from the US and Europe, the Chinese company invests a lot of resources and resources in its own developments in the field of artificial intelligence and autonomous control systems for cars. The recent partnership of the Chinese company with BMW has not tempered the ardor of developers, so they began supporting other car manufacturers, software and hardware. Among them was the project NVIDIA Appolo, and recently a contract with BAIC was signed.
According to the papers certified by both parties, the automotive concern will begin to massively introduce Baidu's products to its products as early as 2019 and commits to begin production of cars with a third level of autonomy. A little later, supposedly by 2021, it is planned to launch autopilots with the fourth level.
While Intel and Waymo are considering releasing fully robotic and smart taxis with a fifth level of autonomy that does not require driver intervention, the Chinese decided to go the other way, starting to produce simpler and, consequently, cheaper cars. The release of a car with a lower level of autonomy will allow for the rolling out of existing technologies and "stuffing an arm", which in time will also allow producing completely unmanned vehicles.
