The prototype of the AT200 cargo drones was developed by the staff of the Institute of Technical Thermophysics at the Academy of Sciences of China on the basis of a New Zealand P750XL airplane. The design was finalized together with specialists from a number of other companies and scientific organizations. The result was an unmanned aerial vehicle with a maximum take-off weight of 3.4 tons. During testing, the device climbed into the sky after 200 meters of acceleration and made the first flight lasting 26 minutes.
Employees of the institute, engaged in development, explained that at the moment the AT200 is one of the heaviest civil cargo drones in the world, capable of carrying on board up to one and a half tons of payload. The maximum speed of the UAV is 313 kilometers per hour, while it can fly about two thousand kilometers at an altitude of six kilometers.
The tasks of the new unmanned aircraft are provision of provisions and necessary industrial goods for people living in inaccessible areas and marine areas. According to experts, such devices will allow to save money to carriers, and at the same time increase the frequency of flights.
"The project for the development of AT200 was joined by researchers from the No.618 Institute of the AVIC Corporation, the No.54 Institute of the CETC Corporation and the Northwest Industrial Institute," Xinhua News Agency reported.
The cost and date of launching the UAV into the series are not yet known - before this the plane is planned to be finalized, its aerodynamics, capacity and design improved.
