Russian engineers developed an autopilot for grain harvesters

Experts from the Russian company Cognitive Technologies are working on their own autopilot and computer vision system, designed for agricultural machinery. A full-fledged autopilot can not be named, but the program already knows how to hold the steering wheel and help the driver not to lose the course, RNS reports with reference to the press service of the developer company.

The system of deep training of neural networks last year studied the various situations with which it will face in the field. For this, the developers collected and painstakingly sorted video and photo materials, filmed on the fields with the help of a combine equipped with cameras, so artificial intelligence already distinguishes different crops and sees the difference between the next furrow and a more serious obstacle. On the stump or other tractor, the autopilot will not pick up exactly. He knows how to understand and weeds, so that the harvest, collected by the robot, in terms of quality promises to be no worse than usual.

Russian technology recognizes different types of boundaries and states of agricultural land, in addition, the system can be trained and new subtleties - it is enough to update the software. Depending on how the combine moves, the AI will decide on its own where to go, in order to work qualitatively and smoothly.

In its current form, the program can only work together with the driver, which must be present in the cockpit, but the development is not yet complete, so it is possible that when it is brought to mind, harvesters can work completely offline. The creation of technology allocated 34 million rubles. A full-fledged drone combine is planned to be introduced by 2024.
