Voice assistants like Cortana from Microsoft or Siri from Apple have long been firmly established in our lives. Despite the still imperfect technology of communication, for a full-fledged perception of voice assistants there is not enough "real incarnation". The same thoughts were visited by Jarem Archer, who is known on the Net under the name unt1tled , who created something like "holographic avatar" for "Cortana" from the Windows 10 operating system, in terms of functions that are in no way inferior to the "usual" version.
As a computer on which the voice assistant was launched, a relatively small Mini-ITX format machine with 4 gigabytes of RAM and Windows 10, respectively, was selected. As a holographic display used already well-proven glass panels, located at a certain angle to the surface and to each other, forming something like a pyramid. Such a display allows you to get an image of quite good quality, visible to the same under almost any angle.
In the development of software for the holographic version of "Cortana" Archer faced a number of serious problems. The fact is that Cortana was not originally developed with the aim of the possibility of such use as a hologram. And in Windows 10 there are no program interfaces that allow you to track the work of the virtual assistant. Moreover, the national craftsman had to use face recognition technologies in order to adapt the holographic image in accordance with the position of the user and the direction of his view. The result, which you can see in the video below, was quite impressive and quite futuristic. But the question arises: if one person could create something similar without development tools, then why does not Microsoft itself try to imagine anything similar in this area?
