A couple of months ago, MIT engineers developed a 3D printer capable of printing things from several materials at once, because previously such devices could print only certain parts, which then had to be connected. The new approach made it possible to significantly simplify the task for specialists, because now everything is much easier. Now in MIT have made the Foundry program, with which you can work on the design of complex objects, including several materials. The application allows immediately, once the design is ready, send the layout to the new printer for printing.
In addition to the ability to create a project from scratch in Foundry, developers have implemented the function to export an object created in other applications, for example, in Solid Works. The object imported into Foundy will be automatically processed, the program will decide what materials are required to print each element, then you can immediately print everything. Previously it took quite a long time, you had to spend days, nights and even weeks to process the layout, now, Engadget writes, it's only a few minutes.
The guys from MIT have already printed a ski and tennis racket, showed the program to those who wish and seem to continue testing the software, printing various other necessary things. The participants of the master class also keep up with the developers, showing good results in the creation of three-dimensional printed objects. On average, from the beginning of work on the layout to the end of printing takes no more than an hour.
