Contacting a friend from anywhere in the world in any more or less advanced messenger, we can transfer photos, videos, documents or simply write a message, and our friend will receive this information almost instantly. All this is possible thanks to an extensive network of radio communication towers, repeaters, access points and other things. A group of researchers from Japan thought this was not enough, and not so long ago they presented a device through which it is possible to transmit data over huge distances directly between devices, without the participation of "intermediate links".

Technology was presented in Tokyo at the Factory 2016 Fall. The Japanese company SystemBase demonstrated the Lory modem, which works on the innovative platform for long distance signal transmission LoRa (Long Rage). Thanks to LoRa, it is possible to link two subscribers located one from another at a distance of up to 10 kilometers. How it works? The developers of the system, as well as the algorithms of the system, understandably do not yet disclose it, but the principle of operation is simple: the Lory modem connects to any of your devices via Bluetooth, the same makes the second subscriber with another device from the kit (Lory will be sold in pairs) . And, actually, everything. You can transfer photos, videos at a speed of up to 300 kilobits per second, and organize a session using the Himalaya Talk application.

According to the developers of the company SystemBase,

"We assume that this kind of direct communication will be a very useful tool in the mountains, in the sea and in other places where there are no base stations for mobile communication."

The size of the Lory modem is 90 x 45 millimeters, and the thickness of the device is only 12 millimeters. The charge of the device is enough for 168 hours of operation in the offline mode. Sales will start already this year.
