Microsoft is doing very badly in the Chinese market. Latest news suggests that the government of this country is going to completely abandon the use of the Windows operating system on their computers in the very near future. This was reported by the state-controlled newspaper Jinghua.cn, which, with reference to the representative of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Ni Guannyan, who has close ties to the government, wrote that the replacement of the Windows operating system with its own developed operating system should occur "urgently."
It is very likely that China wants to abandon the use of the Microsoft product due to security issues, as some local officials have already accused the Redmond company of using keyloggers that could help the US government to spy on Chinese computers. At the same time, it becomes clear that China plans to abandon the use of not only Microsoft software, but also hardware.
Microsoft’s problems in the Chinese market began in May this year, when local authorities decided to ban the use of the Windows 8 operating system on government computers for no particular reason. At that moment, people close to this issue noted that Windows 8 could pose a potential security threat to the state, since Microsoft could use this OS to access national secrets stored on government computers and servers.
The Redmond company itself said that such a decision was at least unexpected for it, and at the same time noted that it was trying hard to establish a dialogue with local authorities and convince them of the incorrectness of such conclusions. As a result, Microsoft offered the government to use the previous version of the operating system, Windows 7, indicating that it has all the features of the new operating system, minus the touch-optimized user interface and some performance improvements.
The Chinese government, however, was not encouraged by Microsoft’s generous offer and decided to start negotiations on reducing trust in the company, while conducting several searches of local offices, as well as confiscating computers and documents that could be used to conduct this case. For Microsoft, in turn, there was nothing to do but indicate that "they are willing to cooperate."
Microsoft Executive Director Satya Nadella personally visited China in September of this year, but the company hasn’t yet revealed any new details of developments after this trip. At the same time, in China, suspicions about the company and its Windows 8 operating system have not been removed, and soon all Chinese government computers are going to be transferred to the base of their own operating system developed in China.
