We first heard about the operating system for the Internet of Things from Google in May of this year. And then came the moment when access to the new OS got everyone. The search giant announced the discovery Brillo OS, from where anyone can download all the necessary documentation and SDK for development.
Brillo OS supports processors based on the main ARM, x86 and MIPS architectures. Of course, it was not a revelation to anyone that the new operating system is based on Android, nevertheless it was significantly reworked and simplified due to the fact that it had to work on far less productive devices than modern smartphones. For the full operation of the Brillo OS system on the device, it needs 128 MB of storage space, as well as 32 MB of RAM.
Updates of the operating system will be released every six weeks, major updates - every six months. Considering that the concept of the Internet of Things has been gaining increasing popularity all over the world lately, Brillo OS should grab a decent market share of other similar operating systems in the coming years. So far, however, it is not at all clear what kind of financial strategy Google will choose for companies that decide to use their new OS in their devices, but time, of course, will put everything in its place.
