Google will teach smartphones to count calories from food photos

Im2Calories

Google is developing software for counting calories in food photographs. Researcher Kevin Murphy presented the Im2Calories project at a recent Rework Deep Learning Summit event in Boston, telling the audience how mobile health and fitness apps will transform with the advent of a new form of artificial intelligence.

The Im2Calories project uses sophisticated deep learning algorithms and the depth of each pixel in an image to determine the type and size of chunks.

Obviously, people really want to have such a thing, because it is very useful, - said Kevin Murphy.

Despite the fact that Im2Calories is still in the research and development stage, the company is already looking for ways to use this technology in other situations. For example, using this technology, it will also be possible to analyze traffic to help drivers find free parking spaces.

The developers are confident that the application for the analysis of calorie dishes will be a hit.

A few days earlier, Google introduced the operating system for the “Internet of things”, with which it is going to integrate all your home electronics into a single network and connect it to the Internet.
