Just recently, Microsoft announced its new operating system Windows 10. However, judging by the comments to the article, not all users were able to install a new product from Microsoft. Thus, it was decided to write the installation instructions for Windows 10 Technical Preview on your computer.
It should be noted right away that in my case the installation of Windows 10 is made from a USB flash drive on a laptop with an absolutely clean hard drive.
First of all, we need to download the operating system image from the Microsoft website, by clicking on this . Immediately it is worth considering that there is no Russian in the Technical Preview version. For myself, I downloaded the 64-bit English version of the OS.
Next, this image must be burned to a USB flash drive or DVD. To do this, you can use any program for recording ISO format images. I used the ultraISO program, as the developers provide a 30-day trial version of the program.
After that, we proceed directly to the very stage of the installation of the operating system. The first step is to insert the USB flash drive into the laptop and select it in the BIOS as a device for booting. Most computers have a slightly different BIOS, but for almost all the boot settings are located in the BOOT section.
Then we load the laptop, and after some time, the screen for selecting language parameters appears on the screen. After this step, we proceed to selecting the partition to install the OS on the hard disk. From my hard disk with a capacity of 500 gigabytes, I gave about 150 gigabytes for Windows 10, and left everything else for data. I note that everyone can divide his hard disk into as many parts as he wants.
After selecting a partition on the hard disk and clicking the Next button, the system begins the installation process, which may take some time. It is worth noting that the computer can be overloaded several times during installation.
After installation and several reboots, the system will prompt you to choose a Wi-Fi network to which it will connect by default. You can skip this step if there is no network.
The next step is to configure the operating system, and in particular the choice of the frequency of updates, sending error reports, etc. You can choose all the default settings by clicking “Use express settings”, or customize all settings by clicking “Customize”. Details on all the settings we will not stop.
Next, the system prompts you to enter your Microsoft account information, and in its absence, register in the system. Windows will also show you a window for selecting settings for the OneDrive cloud storage.
After all these points, the system will continue the installation for some time, and then the Windows 10 desktop will appear before us in all its glory.
Further, most likely, it will be necessary to install the necessary drivers, which you can download from the website of the manufacturer of your laptop. In my case, the drivers almost did not need, and those that still needed to be installed came from Windows 8.
I would also like to draw your attention to one thing. In my case, immediately after installing Windows 10, I did not see the second partition on the hard disk. That is, only the “C” disk was visible. To return my “stolen” disc “D”, it was necessary to do several actions. The first is to click the right mouse button in the lower left corner and select the “Disk Management” item. After that, right-click on the partition that should be the “D” disk, select “Change Drive Letter and Path” and assign a drive letter (for example, “D”).
In principle, the installation of Windows 10 Technical Preview can be considered complete. It is worth noting that in this case we considered the option of installing the operating system on an absolutely clean hard disk. There is also the possibility of installing Windows 10 from under your current operating system. In this case, you also write the OS image to a disk or USB flash drive and then simply select the “Setup” file and follow similar instructions.
