Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system has overcome another important milestone in its key goal of 1 billion devices, which the company plans to successfully achieve by 2017. According to the analytical website Petri.com reports that at the moment Windows 10 runs on 100 million computers and its share continues to grow.

It is important to note that Microsoft itself has not yet officially announced such an achievement, since it itself did not conduct new calculations. The latest official information on this account, which appeared earlier this month, pointed to a figure of 75 million copies of Windows 10.

Nevertheless, the percentage of Windows 10 users is really growing very fast and it will not be surprising if the company can actually reach the mark of 1 million computers operating around the world on the basis of the new OS. In the end, the prerequisites for doing so are really there - after all, 100 million PCs within 2 months from the moment of release is a very good indicator.

For comparison, we note that in the period of 60 days from the moment of release, the share of Windows 10 is growing much faster than the share of Windows 8 for the same period. According to the company's management, three months after the release, the share of Windows 8 was only about 40 million computers.

Perhaps the rapid growth in popularity of Windows 10 is probably connected with one important thing: users of legal copies of previous OSs are offered to upgrade to a new one completely free. True, free cheese will only be available until July 29, 2016, so if you have not installed Windows 10 on your computers yet, you will have another 10 months ahead to make up your mind.

This is exactly what Microsoft hopes for, because it will not only allow it to reach the cherished goal of 1 billion Windows 10-based devices, but also reduce the share of the Windows 7 operating system in the market, which is still the desktop operating system No. 1 with its 50 percent.

This problem will become more acute in 2020, when official support for Windows 7 will end. And to avoid the “Windows XP effect”, companies need to think of a way to persuade all owners of Windows 7 to switch to a new OS. A free update in this case seems like the perfect solution.
