Today, July 29, the long-awaited release of the new Microsoft operating system for Windows 10 computers and tablets took place. Owners of licensed versions of Windows 7 and 8 can install a new OS for free throughout the year, other users can purchase it starting from $ 120 for Windows 10 Home.
So, if you have Windows 7 Service Pack or Windows 8.1 Update 1 installed on your computer (any edition other than corporate), then you can get a copy of Windows 10 for free. You can see the update procedure below:
If you have older versions of Windows 7/8, you will have to upgrade to the latest version of your OS first (upgrade for free), then switch to Windows 10.
Does it make sense to move to a new OS? Judge for yourself: you will get a new, thoughtful and fast interface with the Start button, Notification Center, application store, integration with all Microsoft services, Cortana voice assistant (although at the moment it still does not support Russian), DirectX 12 and new Edge browser that replaced Internet Explorer.
You can ignore the update and continue to use the familiar version of the operating system, however, please note that after July 29, 2016 the update will be paid.
The update should download itself to your computer, but do not worry if this has not happened yet. Windows 7 and 8.1 are installed on 75% of computers worldwide, and Microsoft’s servers are not rubber, so if you didn’t back up the update before and did not participate in Windows Insider, you’ll have to wait. At the same time, be careful: the installation files are downloaded in the background without your knowledge and “eat” you have several gigabytes of traffic, if you are using non-limit Internet.
If you are using a pirated version of Windows 7 or 8.1, you will also be asked to upgrade to the latest. You can do this for free, but after the upgrade you will receive constant notifications about the need to activate the system. It is possible that Microsoft will limit the functionality of unactivated copies of Windows 10 or even make it impossible to launch them after some time. Therefore, be careful and make a deliberate decision whether you should move to a novelty.
