3 out of 10 computers in the world are still running Windows XP

For those who do not know, Microsoft officially stopped supporting Windows XP yesterday, but the operating system launched in 2001 is still used on about 28 percent of computers worldwide.

According to the latest statistics from Statista, an estimated 300 million computers around the world still use Windows XP. The agency notes that approximately 3 out of 10 computers in the world are still operating on the basis of an outdated operating system, which Microsoft officially stopped supporting.

Even though Windows XP will no longer receive updates and patches that enhance its security, most of its users do not want to upgrade to more modern operating systems. And the main reason for this failure is the high cost of this update.

The transition to the same new Windows 8.1 will require a person not only to spend money on the operating system itself, but also force it to update the hardware, since the old computers that run Windows XP without any problems will not cope with the new operating system and most fit the minimum hardware requirements set by Windows 8.1. Nevertheless, many are thinking about switching to Windows 7, which, as practice shows, is much friendlier both to the old hardware and to the end user - there is a Start button (in the Windows 8.1 update it was also returned, albeit in a modified ), as well as nice looking effects on the Aero desktop.

Microsoft itself notes that it did a great job in updating Windows 8.1 to optimize the operation of this OS and was able to reduce the minimum threshold of requirements for hardware based on it. Now this operating system has 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of permanent memory. In addition, the company is trying in every way to reduce the final cost of products based on Windows 8.1, including the cost of the tablets, which, according to optimistic plans of the Redmond giant, will have to cost below $ 250.
