#CES | Mozilla injects Firefox OS into Panasonic TVs.

Smart TV

At the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, Firefox announced a partnership with Panasonic in the production of Smart TV. Cooperation of companies involves the introduction of a young operating system Firefox, initially focused on smartphones and tablets, on televisions with Internet access, writes the British technological tabloid The Inquirer. This will help promote Firefox OS and its open ecosystem.

About the details of the agreement at the moment almost nothing is known. There are no specifications, no release dates, no territories where new products will be sold. But one thing is clear - this is another step towards the war for a place in the living room. This message was preceded by the news about the revival of the operating system webOS in the "smart" TVs LG. The first LG TV running the webOS platform built on the Linux kernel was demonstrated at CES-2014. There, the Korean company announced the massive equipping of their televisions with a new software platform this year.

The partnership of Mozilla and Panasonic will contribute to further innovation in Smart TV, which will take the user experience to a whole new level, said Yuki Kusumi, head of the television business at Panasonic AVC Networks.

Firefox operating system, meanwhile, is also used in separate models of smartphones ZTE and LG.

It is expected that the first Panasonic TVs running Firefox OS will be presented at the end of this year.
