Last week at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, the Finnish Nokia introduced Android-smartphones of the X series. However, you cannot call them full-fledged “android phones” - the company changed the operating system beyond recognition and banned access to applications from Google Play, providing in return its application store. This angered true Android fans and they hacked into the smartphone.
The user of the XDA-Developers forum under the nickname Kashamalaga told the public that he had hacked the Nokia X smartphone, which he inherited at MWC-2014, to launch the Google Now Launcher application on it and get access to the Google Play service.
As you know, Nokia's X-series smartphones use Android as the operating system, but most of its software code is rewritten by Nokia programmers for their own needs. Highly modified version of Android with a great external resemblance to Windows Phone is designed to promote its own applications and services Nokia and Microsoft. As a result, these smartphones work only with applications from the Nokia Store, ignoring the native Google programs like Gmail, Google Maps and Google Hangouts, with which almost every owner of an Android device is familiar.
Judging by the records on the forum, the Nokia code was not so difficult to break in: the user of the XDA-Developers forum did it in five steps. But do not think that everyone can cope with this task, some knowledge will still be required.
If earlier from the purchase of X-background you were restrained only by the lack of “Google” services and applications, then today you can safely reconsider your opinion. Obviously, hacking the phone will cancel the warranty and may lead to undesirable consequences, but this is incomparable with the pleasure that a boom receives during such an experiment.
