The manufacturer of Intel processors, which recently introduced an interesting gadget, has released a fun mobile application called Pocket Avatars. The program allows you to exchange messages with emotional video avatars.
The standard camera of the phone and the built-in microphone are involved in the Pocket Avatars application. The program accurately copies facial expressions, movements of the head and voice of the user, then transfers the collected data to animated 3D characters. The application is based on its own gesture recognition and facial expression technology, developed by the research division of Intel Labs.
The principle of operation is as follows: the user selects an available avatar, points the camera at his face and starts talking. The application tracks and records all his gestures and facial expressions in real time.
According to Michael Bell, Vice President and Head of the New Intel Device Group, avatars use special algorithms that take into account many different moments - movement, light, and more. The maximum message duration is 15 seconds. Before sending the message can be viewed.
If the recipient does not have Pocket Avatars installed on the recipient’s phone, he can open the video file via a link in a text message sent via SMS, Email or social service.
