Jelly Bean owns 60 percent of all Android devices

Google

Google has released the first data this year on how things are going with its Android operating system. As expected, the most common version of this OS for January 2014 is Jelly Bean. The data indicates that almost 60 percent of all devices visiting the online store are running Android 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 Jelly Bean. This is 10 percent higher than three months earlier.

The latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system has just broken the mark of the oldest version of Android 2.2 Froyo. KitKat accounts for 1.4 percent of all Android devices.

According to Google's indicators, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the most common OS version on the Play Store. It accounts for 35.9 percent. In turn, the Android 4.2 version is installed on 15.4 percent of devices.

The latest version of Jelly Bean - Android 4.3 - is currently used by only 7.8 percent of devices, but Google expects a sharp rise in these indicators next month, as many manufacturers of smartphones and tablets will update their gadgets just before it.

The next line in the ranking is Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This version of the OS still owns a large part of the market, which is 21.2 percent. Next come Android 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, which together take away 16.9 percent of the market for Android devices.

Only 0.1 percent accounted for the owners of gadgets stuck on the version of Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

The very old operating system from Google, Android 2.2 Froyo, accounts for 1.3 percent.

“Since this data was built on the basis of the collected statistics of visits from the new Google Play Store application, which supports the operation of devices running the Android 2.2 operating system and higher, devices running older Android versions are not included in these statistics. However, as of August 2013, the total volume of gadgets running on older versions of Android (older than Android 2.2), according to data collected by Google servers, was about 1 percent, ”Google reports in its report.
