Despite the many advertising campaigns, promotions and parties to mark the launch of a new operating system around the world, sales of Windows 8 have failed. To prevent such a blunder, Microsoft decided to double the budget, intended to promote its new Windows 8.1 operating system.
Western portal WinSuperSite reports that Microsoft has approved a budget of 405 million dollars, intended for the promotion of the advertising campaign of their new Windows 8.1. This is 164 million more than was spent on advertising Windows 8. The same source reports that 131 million dollars from the new advertising budget will go to support various promotional offers (discounts and the like) and events, and the remaining 274 million dollars - on net marketing and operating expenses.
Microsoft's efforts are quite understandable, especially considering that she understood her previous mistakes and is now trying her best to correct them not only in the matter of her products, but also in the matter of advertising.
Of course, if the Redmond company hires a bunch of half-naked girls to advertise their updated Surface tablets and the Windows 8.1 operating system, then the benefits of such advertising will be small - after all, it will not tell the consumer anything new about the devices and their operating system. Therefore, companies should intelligently think about their next steps.
In addition, Microsoft has now changed its business strategy. Now the company is trying to learn more about its customers and promote those products (devices, services and software) that may actually be of interest to one or another buyer, almost individually.
The result of the new policy, for example, was the return of the Start button to Windows 8.1, as well as the addition of the ability to customize the operating system so that when the user is booted, the user gets to the desktop and not the live tile screen. Both functions were subjects of heated discussions in the forums. People wanted to make the modern operating system offer a more familiar working environment for them. And what is interesting - Microsoft has heeded these pleas.
