Microsoft has introduced a new version of the DirectX 12 graphics API at the Game Developer Conference (GDC).
The key feature of DirectX 12 has become a significantly modified one of its key components - Direct3D. In the new version it began to work much faster and more efficiently. Direct3D in DirectX 12 can better create graphic scenes, quickly draw all small objects and more fully utilize the resources of modern video cards.
An important difference between Direct3D 12 is that it can work not only with new high-performance computers, but can also support all devices from Microsoft, including Windows smartphones, tablets, laptops, as well as the Xbox One gaming console.
Performance improvements were achieved by providing games with access to lower hardware resources. Thanks to this access, games can more efficiently utilize multi-threaded scalability, as well as CPU resources. In addition, in the new version of Direct3D 12, it was possible to reduce the unproductive expenditure of resources by the GPU due to the introduction of descriptor tables and brief information about the state of objects.
And that is not all. In the updated version of the component, attention was paid to rendering tools, which have been significantly improved. Due to this, it was possible to improve the efficiency of some algorithms, according to the DirectX developer blog.
Microsoft reports that it’s not necessary to buy a new video card to use DirectX 12. The new version of the graphics API supports 80% of modern video accelerators.
New games with support for DirectX 12 should appear in 2015. More information you can read on .
