According to journalists from The Verge portal, referring to their colleagues at The Times of India, Microsoft is currently thinking about starting the free distribution of the Windows Phone mobile operating system for all of its production partners. Such an initiative, according to the company, can stimulate sales of devices based on this platform and encourage even more manufacturers to release more Windows Phone-based gadgets.
The Verge reports that the company introduced a similar proposal a month ago, and according to the publisher, it has already borne fruit: at least one third-party company has expressed a desire to work with the Redmond giant, and by now both sides have signed the necessary documents.
Two Indian smartphone makers, Karbonn and Lava (Xolo), which are now engaged in the production of low-end Android devices, also expressed a desire to cooperate. According to Indian media, Microsoft has been negotiating with these two companies since last year, but it was decided to announce a partnership agreement only after the Redmond company decided to refuse to collect licensing fees for Windows Phone.
And while Microsoft still refuses to discuss individual licensing agreements, it is already becoming clear to everyone that by waiving licensing fees, the company thus hopes to create a worthy competition to the Android operating system from Google.
Times of India reports that talk about the possibility of sharing two different operating systems in one device went back in October last year, when Microsoft allegedly led a discussion about licensing agreements with HTC, in which the mobile device manufacturer agreed to use the operating system as separate option "for their Android devices.
