Photoshop got support for 3D printers

Photoshop CC

Adobe is moving in the direction of 3D printing. New update Photoshop CC brings with it a tool that allows you to import 3D-models, edit them and print. That’s how the company sees a convenient way to use its graphic editor for 3D printing. Immediately it should be noted that Photoshop is used here more to fit third-party projects for their own needs, rather than as a tool for creation.

Although the "photo shop" already contains several functions for 3D modeling, Adobe does not consider that many of their users will start creating physical objects from scratch. Instead, the company offers support for 3D printing, which, in its opinion, is the best offer for users who need only to correct and print an existing model, writes The Verge.

Adobe has added several features that facilitate 3D printing. Users do not need to worry about whether the object will fall apart during printing - Photoshop automatically creates temporary supports around the printed object. The collaboration between Adobe and Makerbot allowed Photoshop to automatically generate previews to see what the finished object would look like. This feature is also provided to users of 3D Systems Cube 3D printers. Later, native software support will receive devices from other manufacturers. It could be XYZprinting's home 3D printer, which costs only $ 499. This will allow you to create your own custom profiles for the printer.

The practical application of the new 3D-capabilities of Photoshop, Adobe sees in the design of jewelry, the manufacture of prototypes of various products, as well as figures for animated films. Photoshop CC currently supports 5 of the following 3D file formats: OBJ, STL, 3DS, Collada, and KMZ.

Thanks to the partnership with Shapeways, which provides 3D printing services, Photoshop users can see in advance a preview of a particular model using company supplies, starting with colored sandstone and ending with bronze. The program also independently calculates how much 3D printing services will cost the user.

Like all Creative Cloud updates (CC), it is available for free download to all subscribers of the service starting from January 16. New print options will be added to the appropriate menu. Other new features include the Perspective Warp tool for automatically correcting perspective distortion during manipulation of objects in the image, as well as changes in the angle at which the photo was taken.

3D printing is sweeping the world by leaps and bounds. The technology is even used in the production of parts for combat aircraft.
