Android celebrates its fifth anniversary

Android

Happy birthday, Android! Exactly five years ago, Google introduced the first version of its own Android operating system, which also became part of the first device based on it - the T-Mobile G1, also known as HTC Dream. T-Mobile G1 is the first commercial product running a new Android operating system based on Linux.

And now, after just some 5 years, Android, with the help of Samsung, has become the most popular mobile operating system in the world. By March 2013, this mobile OS occupied 64 percent of the total mobile device market. And by July 2013, the number of different models of mobile devices based on Android was 11,868 units.

By May 2013, a total of 48 billion applications were downloaded and installed from Google Play, an online mobile app store. By September of this year, the number of gadgets running Android was more than one billion.

Not bad for a five year term, right? It will be interesting to see what heights Android will reach in the next five years of its life.

In the meantime, we offer to see the presentation of the very first mobile device based on Android:
