For a long time, users of the world's most popular mobile OS Android have become accustomed to the Droid fonts, which have been used since the very first version of the operating system. But it is time to change habits. In Ice Cream Sandwich ("ice-cream cake" in Russian) appeared the font Roboto. He, too, was specially designed for the "android" platform. The new font looked favorably on modern high-resolution displays. Roboto allowed to avoid "clumsy" display when smoothing fonts.

The oldest of the "android" functions, the notification screen, has remained almost the same. But it became possible to delete individual notifications by swiping them outside the visible area. In previous versions, only all notifications could be cleared at once. To remove a separate notification from the screen, you had to click on it so that the system would regard this as familiarizing the user with its content. In the end, this could lead to the opening of the application, which you were not going to open at all.

Google gradually expanded the capabilities of the software keyboard, starting with the version of Cupcake, in which it debuted. Ice Cream Sandwich is no exception in this regard. The design and location of the virtual buttons have not changed significantly. Improvements have affected the correction of words and tips. The platform found a red underscore for incorrectly entered words and the ability to immediately add a word to the dictionary. At first glance, text input, clipboard support and a virtual keyboard are so good that they have no equal in the market.

Home screen has become more functional. Now it is possible to create new folders by “overlaying” one icon over another. The home screen has also gained the “Tray of the Favorite”, which took over the functions that previously existed in third-party shells. Unlike Froyo and Gingerbread, where the phone and browser icons were constantly in the dock at the bottom of the screen, the Favorites Tray allowed the user to determine which applications he always wanted to have on hand. The default is the phone, messages, browser and people.

Analysis of work with data. Gingerbread now has the ability to analyze battery consumption. In Android 4.0, it became possible to monitor the consumption of traffic. The system has learned to give a signal in order to avoid overspending. The user could see the total amount of consumed traffic for a certain period of time, as well as see which applications and in what volume precious megabytes consume.
New calendar and mail applications. The email application has acquired a new design and support for the “action bar”. The calendar was unified conveniently for those users who have several accounts on their devices.

Starting with Ice Cream Sandwich, the system learned to “recognize” its master by sight and, based on this knowledge, unlock the phone. To do this, use the front camera device.
The idea to make the phone a full-fledged computer appeared relatively long ago. The oldest smartphone dates from 1993 year. But only with the advent of the legendary iOS and the massive Android, the “smart phone” has ceased to be a rare and of little interest to the ordinary user.
