Google bought a promising company developer application Bump

bumpmain

The founder and CEO of Bump, David Lieb, through the official blog of the search giant, reports that his organization is now part of the friendly Google team. For those who do not know, Bump is developing data transfer technologies between mobile devices. Their application of the same name allows users to share photos or contacts among themselves, just knocking their phones slightly. What makes this application special is that the data exchange is not based on NFC technology, which would seem obvious with similar types of information transfer.

“Bump is based on two main things: the application on your device is synchronized with a special software algorithm that resides on our servers in the cloud. Being in your phone, the application reads the moment when the gadgets hit each other due to the sensors of the device. The algorithm processes this data and compares them with the same blow that the other phone "felt", ”the application FAQ says.

Due to the unusual and support data transfer between devices based on Android and iOS, Bump managed to gather an army of users. The Verge writes that in 2011, the number of downloads of the application amounted to more than 60 million. However, the company did not manage to extract deserved benefits from its work. The later released application Flock, which was tied to a group exchange of photos between users, also did not find a well-deserved response.

In general, the company managed to earn a little more than $ 20 million. And here Bump, which releases such cool applications, but does not quite understand how to conduct a business properly, is interested in Google.

The official Google blog reports that, for the time being, Bump and Flock will remain available as independent applications. But, most likely, Google will in the future try to find a way to integrate the elements of the Bump and the group transfer of photos into their own phones and operating system.
