Microsoft engineers have developed software that allows you to control the "smart home". The new software will become a platform for creating applications for the "installation" in homes and apartments, furnished with various appliances and electronics.
Despite the wide availability of home goods connected to the Network, whether they be surveillance cameras, motion sensors or thermal switches, they all work independently of each other. New software from Microsoft, called Lab of Things, provides a centralized virtual control panel of various smart home devices. Developers are offered standards for creating applications for homes managed by the Lab of Things.
The Lab of Things announcement was held at the Faculty Summit annual summit for Microsoft researchers and third-party developers. Unlike other smart home control systems, this one offers more options, the company said. The idea of a single platform is to force inanimate objects and devices to interact with each other using the Internet. The Lab of Things project is based on HomeOS, an earlier development of Microsoft Research.
Software is available at lab-of-things.com. Once installed on a home computer, it automatically detects all household automatic appliances connected to the same network. At the presentation of the product, a Microsoft researcher showed how Lab of Things independently recognizes the door opening and closing sensor. The user can also set up an email alert feature. Separately, the ability to perform remote access to recordings from surveillance cameras was demonstrated.
Home automation systems can control the consumption of electricity and water, tracking all the habits of tenants, to subsequently propose new ways to conserve and manage the resources necessary for their livelihood. Lab of Things can be used not only in private homes. According to experts, the system is also suitable for medical institutions, sports complexes and a variety of commercial facilities. The scope of its use is wide.
Recall that last year, the South Korean company Samsung released a number of mobile applications for the management of household appliances.
