Futuremark has officially announced the release of a new benchmark 3DMark, aimed at assessing the performance of PC and mobile devices. In the new version, the usual number in the title has disappeared, but this is not the main innovation. According to the company, the new version will become a universal benchmark for evaluating the performance of the graphics subsystem of various devices running Windows, Windows RT, Android and iOS.
The new Futuremark 3DMark suite includes Fire Strike, Cloud Gate and Ice Storm tests. Fire Strike test results will help evaluate the performance of top-end DirectX 11 compatible PCs.
Cloud Gateway Test Pack is aimed at assessing the performance of desktops and laptops running Windows. It uses DirectX 11, which is adapted to the maximum capabilities compatible with DirectX 10 devices.
Test Ice Storm evaluates the performance of mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, ultrabooks). For Windows devices, DirectX 11 is used, which is adapted to the maximum capabilities of Direct3D compatible devices. The tests for devices running Android and iOS use OpenGL ES 2.0.
The Futuremark 3DMark benchmark is available in three editions: 3DMark Basic Edition (free), 3DMark Advanced Edition ($ 24.95) and 3DMark Professional Edition ($ 995).
