Google has threatened to take away the license on Acer from Acer

Google пригрозила отобрать у Acer лицензию на Android

Today it became known that Acer has canceled the release of a new smartphone running the Aliyun operating system of Chinese origin. The reason for this decision allegedly served as a threat from Google, which promised the Taiwanese manufacturer to terminate the license for the Android platform.

To date, Acer has scheduled a press conference on the launch of the Acer A800 smartphone in China. A distinctive feature of the device was Aliyun OS, developed by a subsidiary of e-commerce giant Alibaba Group. Suddenly, Acer canceled its event without any explanation. Alibaba immediately reacted to this, stating that Google was to blame for the cancellation, which threatened to take Acer’s license to use Android on third-party smartphones if it didn’t refuse to launch the A800 to the masses.

A spokesman for Alibaba called Google’s actions “unfair to users” and expressed concern about “restricting user access to competitive products.” Google, in turn, refused to comment on the situation.

Acer Marketing Director Muriel Kuan explained that the press conference had to be canceled for a “special reason.” In the sale of the smartphone has not entered.

Using Acer's Aliyun OS system could give Alibaba the status of a backup operating system provider. Previously, Aliyun was installed only on mobile devices of local manufacturers such as Tianyu and Haier. Aliyun OS can work with both Android applications and “cloud programs” that are stored on remote Alibaba servers.

Recall that according to the forecast, by the end of 2013, 90% of smartphones will use cloud computing.
