Kaspersky Lab, a manufacturer of antivirus software, has announced plans to release a secure operating system. The purpose of Kaspersky OS is to protect key information systems used in industry and infrastructure, for example, at nuclear power plants, in traffic management systems, telecommunication systems and other objects of increased importance, writes Yevgeny Kaspersky on his blog.
According to Mr. Kaspersky, the “secret platform” is designed to solve specific narrow problems and is not intended for games, video editing or social networking.
Given the seriousness of the project, the details of the operating system were not disclosed. Currently, the company is in talks with operators and vendors of industrial control systems, so part of the project information is kept secret. Obviously, Kaspersky wants to protect their ideas and know-how from undue attention of competitors.
