Nielsen: Android beats iOS in the USA

Рынок мобильных операционных систем США

In a recent report, the analytical company Nielsen reflected the situation that developed in the American smartphone market in the second quarter of this year. Figures show that the Android platform dominates the market, while iOS is firmly in second place. In general, the management of the two aforementioned operating systems employs 86.2% of all smartphones offered in the USA.

According to the results of the second quarter, Android captured 51.9% of the US smartphone market, while 34.3% of mobile devices had Apple iOS installed. In third place with a large margin follows RIM BlackBerry OS, whose share is 8% of the market.

If we take into account sales in the past three months, the gap becomes even more noticeable: 58.6% (Android) vs. 33.0% (iOS). The situation is explained by the obsolescence of the iPhone 4S, which is already nine months old. But for the side of Android stands One X, entered into the fight with fresh forces.

Given the late launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III in the US and the imminent emergence of the next-generation iPhone, the market share of both platforms will continue to increase.

BlackBerry sales were down 2.7%, while all other platforms, including Windows Phone, together scored 5.8%.
