Until recently, Yandex cards could only be used in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey. But that was until recently. After all, now Yandex has launched its cards for Europe and the USA! True, she did it quietly, without any noise.
Data for maps provides the company Navteq, with which the Russian search giant signed an agreement back in January. Maps are located at maps.yandex.com, as well as maps.yandex.com.tr (Turkish version).
The quiet launch is explained by the fact that, unlike the Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Kazakh and Turkish maps, the international version does not yet display addresses, points of interest, retail outlets and shops, road traffic and 3D streets. A company representative said that in the future, this will definitely appear and they have so far just created a “framework” for future geolocation services.
Back in January, when Yandex signed a license to Navteq data, the following phrase was heard:
“We think that the service will be useful to Europeans and Americans, but we are also thinking about translating data into Russian and Turkish (data from Navteq are in English), for use in our geo-location services.”
According to analytical data, in September of this year in Russia 16.5 million people used the desktop version of Yandex cards. The company itself also announced that 6.6 million people already use the mobile version of the cards.
