In the coming months, the number of smartphones and tablet computers running the Android 4.1 operating system will grow. Support platform Android 4.1 will receive devices based on low-power Intel Atom processors.
According to PCWorld, Intel is currently porting Android 4.1, also known as Jelly Bean, to the Atom chip. Few of the Android devices offered in the US have an Atom enclosure. Unfortunately, Intel did not report how long it would take to customize Android 4.1.
If Intel continues to lead in the production of processors for laptops and desktops, then the tablet and smartphone market is controlled by companies whose chips are built on the ARM architecture. At CES 2012, Intel said that Motorola and Lenovo will be engaged in the production of smartphones based on Intel Atom.
In the meantime, Intel has focused on processors that support Windows 8. These chips include Atom Clover Trail, which this year will be equipped with some Windows 8-driven tablets.
