There is information that HP is going to offer a license to use its webOS operating system on third-party devices. This statement was made by HP CEO Leo Apotheker (Leo Apotheker).
The head of the company said that HP is currently negotiating with several manufacturers. According to rumors, one of these manufacturers is Samsung. Being able to license webOS by other manufacturers seems like a smart move on the part of HP. Firstly, we (that is, buyers) will get much more devices running this operating system, and secondly, webOS will be able to compete (due to the presence of other manufacturers besides HP) with Android and Windows Phone 7.
The company will continue to produce its own webOS-based tablets and smartphones, but also allow other firms to do the same. And that means webOS as a mobile platform will grow much faster.
