Sony Ericsson has confirmed that its first gaming smartphone, XPERIA Play, will come with the latest mobile operating system from Google. As stated by representatives of the Japanese-Swedish company at MWC '11 in Barcelona, Spain, this model will run on Android 2.4. Recall that this version of Android has the same code name as the previous one: Gingerbread.
It is worth noting that until recently almost all Android Phone from SE came with outdated versions of Android. As an example, two quite popular models - XPERIA X8 and X10. They came with Android 1.6 Donut. Recently, SE provided the opportunity to upgrade their firmware to Android 2.1 Eclair (XPERIA X8) and Android 2.2 Froyo (XPERIA X10, X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro).
According to SE representatives on MEC '11, XPERIA Play will be one of the first smartphones in the world that will ship with Android 2.4 Gingerbread. As expected, this model will be launched for sale in Europe in March. According to preliminary data, the package will include at least five games.
