The US Army has chosen Google Android as the operating system for military smartphones. The program called Joint Battle Command-Platform is a joint project of the non-profit organization MITER and the US Army.
In this case, under the "smartphone" should be understood a device that will only work with applications approved by the US Army or designed exclusively for military purposes. The application software package will allow commanders to track and display the position of their own and enemy forces on the battlefield, exchange operational information and conduct reconnaissance operations.
The aim of the project is to develop a mobile platform based on commercial technologies, which can be expanded with a set of additional applications. The Android system fits these requirements perfectly. The first developments of the platform in the form of a software package for application development (Mobile / Handheld Computing Environment) will be presented in July of this year.
